Tenor for antonomasia, born in Recanati the 20th of March 1890, he brought to sublime perfection the gifts nature gave him, through an assiduous study and through a discipline that the young generations should learn. His voice, from the fired high notes to the soft pianissimos, had a magistral phrasing combined with a strikingly vivid diction. His repertory was very large: over 60 operas (light, forced, dramatic), and also sacred music, neapolitan romanze and songs, stornels, hymns and little songs from all over the world. There is a motive if he was called "The singer of the people". His success lasted for more than fourty years, like his stage debut with the opera "La Gioconda" di A. Ponchielli the 15th of October 1914, or his last striking clamorous "Concerto di addio" at the Constitution-Hall of Washington the 25th of May 1955. He brought all over the world the songs "Non ti scordar di me", "Mamma" and "O sole mio". He was the highly appreciated, clapped and of course loved artist of his generation. His precious voice has been at the service of the beneficence with more of thousand spectacles all over the world. His voice procured millions for the poor people of every land, he brought a smile over the faces of the children at school, in the prisons, he lightened the pains in the hospitals. He devoluted plenty of money to the damaged people of Polesine and Holland, to the Italian people of America and t othe Red Cross-International. |
